Zebra

Spring has 'sprung' as they say and I find myself drawing on the more 'modern classic' part of my style persona, with pants, blouse and jacket being my current preference for the office.

I bought this jacket almost 12 months ago... I love it!  But this is the first time I have worn it.  Why... I'm not sure.
jacket, blouse, pants : target
pumps : shoes of prey

As the jacket is quite a statement I have kept everything else simple but added red pumps for that little 'something' to lift the outfit. Black footwear looked a little heavy and dull in this instance.  The red pumps are a couple of years old and were my first venture into 'designing' my shoe with Shoes of Prey.  I played it safe first time round but would love to order again and be a little more creative.

I really prefer solids or block colours over pattern, but it appears that the main pattern presence in my wardrobe at the moment is animal print!  Animal print has been trending for quite some time, but I still find it very appealing and it still feels and looks fresh to my eye, particularly it's black, white and grey renditions.  As a friend commented recently, part of it's appeal is that it operates so well as a neutral. Case in point would be my black and grey animal print wedges which work with almost anything.

How do you feel about animal print?  Do you wear it?  Do you hate it? Does it work as a neutral in your wardrobe?

Thanks for dropping by.

Black & White

The warm weather is making a very slow arrival this year.  Teasing us with the odd day of high temperature, mingled among mostly cooler days.  Today we reached 31 degrees so it seemed like an opportune time to try out some new summer pieces.

sleeveless jacket /vest : zara
sleeveless drape top : katies
classic pant : katies
animal print wedge heels ; corelli

All items are new with the exception of the shoes.  The Zara vest was purchased online and I am reasonably satisfied with it.  It has a sheer panel down each side and one across the back adding an interesting detail to what is essentially a very simple garment.  This purchase was inspired by Beverly over at Beverly Like Hills.  Hers has a lovely rounded hem line and I have loved each combination I have seen her wear it in.

White pants are something I have always steered clear of, but they are such a fresh and crisp look for the warm weather, and a nice alternative to black, that I am 'getting over' my aversion of wearing white 'bottoms' and giving it a go.  The sleeveless drape top features a faux cross over that seemingly 'rolls' up under the hem of the top.  I am seeing this everywhere at the moment, and am keen to snap up a few tops like this as I find them very flattering.  They are simple but the added interest of the drape is very appealing and easy to wear.

Accessories have been kept to a minimum, simple silver necklace, white watch and silver hoop earrings complete the look.

Trust you all have a wonderful week, thanks for dropping by.

Team Wear

I am on Team Wear, so when I buy something new I usually wear it right away!

The new item is the high low sweater.  It's a nice weight and falls perfectly.  The 'high' hem is quite cropped and finishes at my natural waist.  It lends itself rather nicely to 'faux tucking', ie. the front section sits just behind the belt and the rest of the top is left out.

Believe it or not, this is a Spring outfit.  Our Spring can take a while to 'kick in' so to speak.  It was warm earlier in the day but cooled down considerably later, so a jacket was required.

moto style jacket : brown sugar
high low sweater : katies
slouchy pants : sportsgirl
booties : rubi
belt : jacqui e
earrings : killians walk boutique

I don't change my colour palette much between seasons and will continue to wear black, white, and grey  throughout Spring / Summer.  For those months, I do enjoy lightening the black a little as done here, with the peep toe booties and the lighter coloured animal print belt.  Earrings are another way I will add a pop of colour to an outfit.

I expect to get a lot of wear from the sweater.  I plan on wearing it with skinny jeans/pants with a slim layer under the sweater, over pencil skirts and possibly over a flared skirt!  Now I don't own a flared skirt, and at this point I don't see them quite fitting my style... but I have learnt to never say never.  If I were to find the right skirt, I would certainly give it go.

Do you maintain a consistent colour palette year round, or do the seasons inspire your choices?

Thanks for dropping by, have a wonderful week.
